Before 1536, the "big house" of Chardonne probably belonged to Mr Chrestien Ramel. As he went bankrupt, he had to sell it to the Bernese bailiff Abraham Sturler. From the beginning of the 17th century, the Sturler family acquired land between Chardonne and Corsier, where they planted vines. Château de Chardonne thus became a real wine estate. In 1685, the de Watteville family bought the Château and then, by marriage, it fell to the Muralt family. After financial difficulties, Bernard de Muralt had no choice but to sell the vines to Emile Obrist in May 1933 and the building to the Federal Bank in 1939.
In 1975, Château de Chardonne became the property it is today: a beautiful estate of private apartments. Located below the village of Chardonne, the 1.7-hectare terraced vineyard focus exclusively on growing Chasselas. Château de Chardonne, Lavaux AOC, is the only Lavaux wine recognised as 1er Grand Cru since the establishment of this prestigious designation in 2011. For Obrist, this vineyard is a true gem, with steep slopes facing Lake Geneva. It has always been managed by highly skilled winemakers, rewarded during the Fêtes des Vignerons from 1977 to 1999. In the vineyard, the yield is rigorously controlled to produce high-quality concentrated wines. Château de Chardonne therefore gives birth to elegant, rare and renowned wines.
