Many wine estates of the Vaud region have belonged to municipalities, bourgeoisies, hospices and religious orders. Clos de l’Abbaye is part of this long regional tradition and its history dates back to the 13th century. The Municipality owns eight of the 154 hectares of Yvorne vineyard, either inherited or acquired over the years. These hectares are located in the south and north of the village. The structure and texture of the soils differ from one plot to another, and plantings are maid accordingly. However, there is a high proportion of stones and gravels. Chasselas is king over the 2 hectares of Clos de l’Abbaye, located at the bottom of the hill. There, the clay-gravelly soil and Lias limestone subsoil, lead to the true expression of Chasselas. Its “Clos” designation is witnessed by the small terraces of the vineyard and its stony walls called “resses”. Bush vines are planted at a density of 10,000 plants/hectare with a targeted yield of 1 kg per square meter. The estate is committed to sustainable farming. It could be proud of producing a remarkable Grand Cru. It is a bright and expressive wine, with complex aromas of flowers and flint. Full-bodied, with a high concentration of flavours, it is very well-balanced and will benefit from bottle ageing, gaining even more complexity and intensity.
